Tried in the Fire

Have you ever been going through something so difficult that you didn't feel like you could take one more minute?  You know those things that drive you to tears and to your knees.  Difficult situations and difficult people.  You are always such a pleasant person when you are around pleasant people but you always get stuck with the annoying ones that get on your nerves.  Well, maybe there is a purpose!  Sirach 2: 4,5 talks about gold being tried in the fire.  You can read it here.  Basically, it says that whatever you go through, go through it cheerfully and be patient when thou art changed to a low estate.  For gold is tried in the fire and acceptable in the furnace of adversity.   I also read something in my Max Lucado Bible.  It says that God allows tough situations in our lives in order to refine us and bring us closer to him.  We should approach these with the right attitude and seek wisdom from God.  He also shares a story about a potter that is making a pot.  He takes it out of the oven to see if it is done by thumping it.  If it is not done it will make a thud sound and must be put back in.  We are the pot and the thumpings are the difficult things we go through in our lives that shape and mold us while we are in the fire.  The sickness, the difficult people, the betrayals or whatever brings out impurities within our character.  We must go through them so that they are exposed and we get rid of them to make us better then we were before.  The verses that he gives to study for this story are about perseverance in Romans 2:7; Romans 8:24-252 Corinthians 6:3-7.  So try to rejoice in your trials child of God.  He will work out all things for your good and even trials have a purpose in the plan of God.  God took me through some terrible times when I didn't know where food was going to come from to feed my kids, but he showed himself faithful.  We see him move in our situations when we no longer depend on ourself and only depend on him.  Remember he made water appear in the desert for Hagar and her baby.  He can take the fish and bread and feed a multitude.  I could go on and on about the miracles he has done in the Bible.  Healings and Deliverance and even smiting your enemies if you remember God raining fire down upon Elijah's foes. Great and mighty is our God.
