I was recently reading about Abraham and Sarah in the Book of Jasher. During a time of great famine, they journeyed toward Canaan. Because Sarah was very beautiful, Abraham feared that someone in Egypt might try to take her. To protect her, he placed her in a chest during their travels and instructed others to say she was his sister.
However, Sarah’s hiding place was eventually discovered, and she was taken to Pharaoh. Immediately, Abraham turned to prayer, crying out to God for his wife’s protection. God answered by sending an angel who struck Pharaoh’s household with great affliction. Pharaoh quickly realized that all of the trouble began the moment Sarah entered his house. He confronted Abraham, returned Sarah to him, and the disturbances ceased.
This account powerfully illustrates God’s protection over His people and the effectiveness of prayer. Even in a hostile environment, God intervened on Abraham and Sarah’s behalf. Please read the whole story for yourself. Jashur
A similar example can be seen in the life of Elijah. Surrounded by murderous idolaters who sought to kill him and all the prophets of the Lord, Elijah faced immense danger. Yet, God displayed His power by sending fire from heaven, defeating those who opposed Him and proving to all that He is greater than any enemy we might face. This can be found in 1 Kings 18 if you would like to read the full story.
These stories are timeless reminders of God’s faithfulness. When we are confronted by fear, danger, or opposition, we can trust that He is with us. His protection surrounds His people, and His power is greater than any circumstance. Let these accounts strengthen your faith and remind you that prayer is not only heard—it moves the hand of God.
